In last week’s blog, we explored the “Cruise-Control” nature of relationships – taking for granted those who are in our lives.
Just as passion for our husbands cools over a period of time, so too, can our pursuit of God’s presence.
When everything shut down in March due to Covid, the people in my home stopped leaving for work or school. My quiet time each morning with the Lord became disrupted.
My discipline of reading the word and meditating in prayer was literally interrupted by the noise, distraction, and motion in the house around me. As the needs around me pressed in, I found it simpler to push off my time with God to a “little later” or when “things got quieter.”
While I faltered, His presence never wavered.
When I forgot to thank him, His blessings still showed up every morning.
He is faithful.
He is never going to let us down! He is so good!
The song of praise, “King of My Heart” sung by Steffany Gretzinger, Jeremy Riddle and Christine Rhee echoes this truth.
No matter the cause, my eagerness to spend time with God and excitement about listening to His voice had cooled.
I went from “on fire” to “lukewarm.”
And we know how Jesus feels about Lukewarm!
He says in Revelation 3:16, “So, because you are lukewarm–neither hot nor cold–I am about to spit you out of my mouth.”
Jesus himself observes this human tendency of cooling love in Revelation 2:4
“But I have this complaint against you. You don’t love me or each other as you did at first! Look how far you have fallen!
And immediately follows with an invitation and a warning in verse 5
Turn back to me and do the works you did at first. If you don’t repent, I will come and remove your lampstand from its place among the churches.”
So, whether you are facing a distance with your husband or an apathy toward God, it’s time to TURN BACK!
Recalling our early days of dating and courtship with our husbands can renew our passion.
More importantly, remember the great sacrifice Christ made to redeem you from your disobedience and rebellion from God’s plan. His blood saved us from the eternal consequences of our sinful nature.
THIS will help you turn back today. THIS will re-ignite your passion and reverence for the almighty God.
In prayer, ask God to wake you each morning with a burning desire to spend time with him – in scripture, in worship, and prayer.
